I bought this purse many years ago and after a few years I started needing to use a crossbody purse. They even told me when they sold it to me that this purse could be crossbody if I just put the extra strap in place on the inside loops. It didn’t take long before one of those loops began to tear out. I had a huge tear in it suddenly. At first I got some strong thread and I sewed it back together. I even sewed the one on the other side to reinforce it. After a few more years (and I did not use this purse all the time,) the stitches started to pull through the leather. This time I knew I needed something stronger. I looked up leather glue but was a little skeptical. Nevertheless I searched for leather glue on Amazon and I came across these patches instead. I never expected to get the exact color, because that’s just not gonna happen unless you’re looking at it in person, but I decided on a lighter color than ivory because I’d rather have lighter than darker. I felt that a patch would be far more secure than glue. I did use some glue to hold the pieces together while I put the patch on, but I certainly wouldn’t have trusted it to last very long. I went ahead and put a patch on both sides so they’d both be better protected. I admit that there are actually two patches on the bad side. That has to do with the fact that I cut it too wide across for the gold loop and I was concerned that it wasn’t covering all of the ripped places that needed help. With how bad the tear was I decided that it seemed like a much better idea to simply put a second patch over top and give a little extra protection than to redo the whole thing, and mainly I didn’t want to bother redoing the whole thing. ?There is one thing to remember that a lot of people complained about. You’re never going to be able to do a patch that doesn’t show up as a patch…Period. My Mother was a professional seamstress and she taught me and every time I just thought I could simply patch something and it wouldn’t show when I was young, she’d have to remind me that no matter how good the patch and no matter how good you are, a patch is simply gonna show. So don’t expect it to blend perfectly. Use it to fix what you want to get more wear out of. Frankly I think it’s doing a great job on my purse. It’s easy to cut, easy to peel, although I tested for the right fit first. Unfortunately, I decided it needed a tiny more cut off on that one side and I didn’t bother testing for fit again before peeling the backing off. Oh well, it fits. I managed to get it to fit and yes I could have redone the whole thing but it’s a very stubborn place so while I have no doubt that this will hold, I couldn’t see the harm in adding another piece to it since I’d already cut too much out of the first. Overall, I recommend it. It’s easy to use, it’s soft, it’ll move easily with the leather underneath. It’s flexible that way. I think it’s a good solution.
